It wasn’t that long ago that the trendy catch phrase of “farm to table” and sourcing locally infiltrated the hospitality space. The owners of the Local Grocer in North Conway, New Hampshire were doing this well before it was a trend.
The health food market offers a wide variety of products; there’s a large gluten free section; they strive to make sure there are options for every dietary need. The Owner Heather is a clinical herbalist and has expanded the herb and supplement section. She’s trained everyone on staff to help one-on-one with your choices when it comes to bulk tea herbs, tinctures, capsules, whole food supplements, flower essences, and more. If you’re looking for a natural remedy, this is the place to go.
Their offerings extend well beyond grocery items- to yoga, massage, reiki. There’s a cafe with juices and smoothies, and great prepared items. And then, the last addition was a full service restaurant called Table and Tonic.
The philosophy behind the menu at the Local Grocer and Table and Tonic is clean and simple. They source their ingredients locally, as well as source ingredients from the Owners farm.
One of the favorite dishes on the winter menu is the Classic Bouillabaisse. All the seafood is sourced from the Gulf of Maine and includes mussels, scallops, and lobster. It comes with a housemade focaccia crouton, rouille, and a parsley remoulade.
The Duck sausage is sourced from an Amish farm in Pennsylvania that believes in sustainability and treating the animals humanely. Duck sausage comes with a creamy polenta that is cooked with half coconut milk, half water, and finished with nutritional yeast, which gives it a very creamy and cheesy consistency and flavor, and it’s 100% vegan.
The Half Roasted Chicken comes with butternut squash puree, roasted purple sweet potatoes, roasted apples, leeks, and white wine.
Come to the bar and you’ll find garden to glass cocktails made with herbs and flowers from our farm.
If you’re looking to come for breakfast, I highly recommend the Jump Start bowl. It has peanut butter, yogurt, and fresh seasonal fruits. It’s the perfect way to start your day.
The Local Grocer and Table and Tonic are without a doubt, JJ Approved. Come here for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just a cocktail, and know that you’re in a place with so much passion for healthy and delicious food. Whether you’re coming up to ski in the winter or hike in the summer, trust us, you’re gonna love it.
